Diego Costa Closing In On Signing For Palmeiras Following Atletico Madrid Exit In January
Former Chelsea player, Diego Costa is in negotiations over moving to Palmeiras – the club he supported as a boy.
The Spaniard is set to return to his hometown Sao Paulo, to play for his beloved Palmeiras on a two-year deal after 15 years in Europe.
The 32-year-old who left the current Spanish La Liga table leaders Atletico Madrid in January is in negotiations with one of the biggest clubs in his hometown of São Paulo.
He has reportedly been offered a two-year deal worth around £2.6m per year after tax by the Brazilian team.
The striker who currently is in Brazil had been in talks with clubs in Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia since exiting the Spanish side.
There were reports that the Saudi Arabian side were the closest to meeting his demands but they unable to agree terms.
He was also linked with one of the top-six teams in the English Premier League (EPL), who offered him a deal to the end of the season, but it was turned down.
As a youth, Costa began his career for Sao Paulo based side Barcelona Esportivo Capela before moving to Portugal to begin his senior career with Braga.
He joined Atletico Madrid after playing a season at Braga but had to wait for his time to see a first team football. His break came in the 2013-1014 season, where he scored 36 goals in all competitions.
Costa signed for Chelsea in 2014, where his 20 EPL goals in his debut season secured the Blues (Chelsea) the title.
He returned to Diego Simone’s Atletico Madrid for the second time, scoring 59 goals in more than 100 appearances.
Diego was born and raised in Brazil, but he represented Spain in Country football as he was qualified to play for the country because the two games he had previously played for Brazil were friendly matches.
He represented Spain in the 2014 and 2018 world cups in Brazil and Russia respectively.
