Manchester City Set New Premier League Record After 3-1 Win Over Everton
Manchester City have set a new English Premier League (EPL) record on Wednesday night after their 3-1 victory over Everton saw them reach 10 straight wins to begin 2021.
No EPL team has won 10 straight matches in the start of a new calendar year other than City, who are looking to take home the League Title.
Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has taken his side to a 17-match winning streak across all competitions.
The last time City failed to win a game was a 1-1 draw with West Brom on December 15, and last lost in November in a 2-0 game against Tottenham.
The Citizens (Manchester City) have not trailed for a minute in their last 16 games in the League since they lost to Spurs (Tottenham).
With this, the team is gradually approaching Arsenal’s record of 19 straight wins, which was set in 1999.
City’s midfielder, Phil Foden opened the scoring in Wednesday night’s win over Everton. His goal was cancelled out by Richarlison’s strike. Riyahd Mahrez and Bernardo Silva secured the win for the citizens.
Guardiola speaking to the media after Wednesday night’s game, said:
When you will a lot of games, everyone wants to beat you and it is tricky, I have not seen that the team is thinking of the table, we have spoken about that, We are not here to defend our lead, it is all about the three points, three points.
There are 42 points still to fight for, we are in the middle of February. Now we rest for a few days, there are so many games.
City will face Arsenal next in EPL on Sunday before they take on Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions league last-16 on Wednesday.
