Post-Match Analysis: Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City Win 13th Successive Game In English Premier League
Manchester City eased to a 2-0 victory over Burnley in game week 22 clash in Turf Moor on Wednesday night, February 4.
They are the first team since Arsenal in 2002 to win 13 successive matches in the English Premier League.
They have not dropped a point since they played a 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion in mid-December.
Gabriel Jesus opened scoring in the 3rd minute, heading home after Nick Pope had weekly parried Bernado Silva’s shot. It was the Brazilian’s second goal in two games, having scored the only goal on Saturday against Sheffield United.
The title favourites got a two-goal cushion before the break as Raheem Sterling converted IIkay Gundogan’s fierce centre at close range in the 38th minute.
Burnley had only two shots and Manchester City’s goal keeper, Ederson didn’t have to make a save in a comfortable win. He has now kept 13 clean sheets this season and looks set to threaten Petr Cech’s all- time record of 24 in a single campaign.
Ederson has a defence in from of him that has only conceded just once in eight games, while his midfielders have been mesmerising in their control and creativity and his attackers have also been firing on all cylinders.
The German, IIkay Gundogan has been outstanding all season, and stepped up as the creator in chief here in the absence of the injured Kevin De Bruyne. It helps when he is surrounded by willing runners, with both Sterling and Riyad Mahrez constantly stretching the home defence.
The City players are back in the frame of mind where they expect to win every time they step out onto the pitch, and it will be no different when they head to Anfield to take on Liverpool on Sunday.
Winning at Liverpool would prove a huge step towards reclaiming the title for Guardiola’s team, but it will serve as the biggest test for this ruthless City team.
