Real Sociedad are set to face Manchester United in Europa League last-32 tie on Thursday evening in Italy, Juventus’ stadium due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer gave his team news ahead of his team’s Europa League fixture.
The manager confirmed the duo of Edison Cavani and Donny van de Beek will not travel to Italy for the game over their injuries.
Also, there are doubts about the fixture of Anthony Martial and Scott Mctominay despite making the trip.
Solksjaer also confirmed Paul Pogba will not be back in action this month after coming off with an injury in a 3-3 draw against Everton early this month.
The manager stated;
We have a couple of doubtful ones and we have to see if they will be fit enough. Anthony (Martial) and Scott (Mctominay) will be checked. Donny (van de Beek) and Edison (Cavani) are definitely not travelling. Donny and Edison are injured so they won’t travel.
The African youngsters- Shola Shoretire and Amad Diallo are amongst United’s 22-man travelling squad.
Nigeria’s 17-year old, Shoretire signed his first professional contract for United early in the month.
Meanwhile, Amad Diallo was an unused substitute when United hosted West Ham in the fifth round of the FA Cup, he moved permanently from Atalanta in January.
When Solksjaer was quizzed about the inclusion of the youngsters, he said;
Yeah, they’re in the travelling squad. Not just for the experience, they are there to make an impact if they have to. The two boys have done well in training and they are talents that we want to give experience to.
First of all, they are travelling and then let’s see if they come on the pitch. It is one of the things we do with our youngsters. They come in and they travel, step-by-step, layer-by-layer and suddenly they are on the pitch. That is the thing- we do have plan and a programme in place that we try to stick to.
United will be hoping to be victorious over the Spanish side after a poor run of form that have allowed them sit on equal points with Leicester City in English Premier League.
Sociedad currently enjoying a good season, having been at the summit of the La Liga league table for few weeks.
They are currently seated in fifth position in the league and hope for a top-4 finish. Former United star, Adrian Janujaz will be reuniting with his boyhood team. The Belgian left United permanently in 2017.
