Babatunde Raji Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing, has on Saturday morning announced the completion of the maintenance and rehabilitation of Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos state.
He made this known via his Twitter page, saying the bridge is now opened to Lagos motorists.

It would be recalled that Lagos State Government announced that it will shut down the bridge for 24 hours from Friday night February 26 to midnight Saturday, February 27.

The total closure of the bridge was to enable contractors to move the equipment used for its rehabilitation and maintenance ahead of the full reopening of both Oworonshoki and Adeniji bound lanes open to traffic.
The bridge was to be reopened on February 15, however the state government announced that construction workers needed few more days to fully completion the rehabilitation of the bridge.

The Third Mainland Bridge has been going through rehabilitation and maintenance since July 2020.
Traffic was partially diverted on a stretch of 3.5kmwhere construction is ongoing between Adeniji Adeniji Ramp and Ebute Metta, while different time belts were allotted for traffic diversions on the bridge.
The 11.8km bridge is the longest of the three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the Mainland.
The bridge starts from Oworonshoki, which is linked to Apapa-Oshodi Expressway and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and ends at the Adeniji Adele Interchange on Lagos Island.
Constructed in 1990, the bridge was adjudged to be the longest in Africa until 1996 when 6th October Bridge in Cairo, Egypt was completed.
