Blackout In Maiduguri As Boko Haram Destroys Another Electricity Tower
Maiduguri, the Borno capital, and some communities have been thrown into darkness after Boko Haram insurgents on Saturday destroyed another electricity tower supplying power to the city.
The attack comes about three days after Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) announced that power has been restored in Maiduguri and other areas in the state, after Boko Haram terrorists on January 25 planted Improvised Explosive Devices and brought down two Transmission towers near Jakana village along the same route.
It took the staff of Power Holding Company of Nigeria almost 7 weeks to repair and restore backlight last Wednesday with heavy jubilations by residents.
Unfortunately, the insurgents launched another attack on a power tower in the city on Saturday.
The latest attack on the transmission line was said to have occurred at 5:56am on Saturday morning — after the insurgents planted explosives on each leg of the tower.
The blast affected T152 and T153 power tower on Maiduguri–Damaturu 330 kilovolts on the same line route of the previous incident.
A senior official of TCN confirmed this in a text message to newsmen on Saturday evening, saying;
After concerted effort by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to restore power to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, insurgents bomb tower 152 and 153 on Damaturu – Maiduguri (Molai) 330kv line at around 5:56am on 27th March 2021, putting Maiduguri and its environs out of power supply again.
