British Broadcaster, Piers Morgan Quits ‘Good Morning Britain’ Show Amid Backlash Over Comments About Meghan MarklePiers Morgan has broken his hours-long silence after quitting Good Morning Britain show on Tuesday, over his comments about Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle’s mental health.

The British broadcaster says he still does not believe Meghan’s claims about her mental health made in her interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The Duchess of Sussex opened up about her suicidal thoughts during her time in the Royal Family in a deeply personal and explosive interview with Winfrey, which aired in the UK on Sunday. She revealed that she got to the stage where she “just didn’t want to be alive anymore.”

Meghan added that she approached people within the Royal “institution” for help after she had entertained suicidal thoughts, but was turned down.

However, reacting to the entire interview on Monday’s show, Morgan said he “didn’t believe a word” the Duchess told Oprah.

He stated;

Who did you go to? What did they say to you? I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report. And the fact that she fired up this onslaught against our royal family I think is contemptible.

Morgan’s statement about Meghan and Harry angered a lot of people and they called him out. Piers Morgan’s co-host and weather presenter, Alex Beresford, also called him out on TV and it resulted in Morgan stormed out on live TV.

Beresford criticised Morgan on Tuesday for “continuing to trash” the Duchess, prompting Morgan to walk off set.

This had resulted in an intense exchange between the duo which saw Morgan walked off set and returned about ten minutes later.

Following Morgan’s statement, over 41,000 complaints against the broadcaster were made, leaving to an investigation by British media regulator Ofcom.

Also, the 55-year-old TV presenter and former tabloid editor tendered his resignation from Good Morning Britain show.

Morgan has now spoken for the first time since his departure was announced, releasing a statement on Twitter.

Reacting to his exit in a tweet on Wednesday morning, Morgan wrote;

On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.

He also shared a photograph of the former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill and a quote about free speech, which read;

Some people’s idea of free speech is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone says anything back, that is an outrage.

There are speculations that Morgan could be replaced co-host Susanna Reid and that broadcaster who fronts other ITV shows, including “Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, will still be working on other shows.
