Enugu, Bauchi, Lagos Top List As NCDC Confirms 269 New COVID-19 Cases
Nigeria’s daily count of fresh coronavirus infections has continued on the low side as 269 new cases were confirmed in 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Sunday.
The country suffered its worst phase of the COVID-19 outbreak between December and January as daily infections averaged over 1,000.
However, infection figures have recently been relatively low with daily cases hovering between 200 and 700 in the past two weeks except for the 709 infections recorded Thursday and the 195 recorded Saturday.
The latest new figure of 269 infections was confirmed by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in its update for March 7.
Enugu was top of the list with 78 new cases, followed by Bauchi with 37 infections, and Lagos with 29 positive samples.
Other states with new cases were recorded as follows: Rivers (22), Imo (18), Ogun (16), FCT (15), Akwa Ibom (13), Kaduna (13), Kebbi (11), Kwara (9), Edo(7), Ekiti (6), Borno (5), Yobe(5), Kano (4) Nasarawa (3), Osun (3), Anambra (2), and Plateau (2).

However, five new deaths were recorded on Sunday, increasing the fatality toll to 1,969, while 230 persons were discharged.
According to NCDC, the recoveries recorded on Sunday, included 80 persons discharged in Kwara state.

With the latest figure, the total infection in the country is now 158,506.
Meanwhile, out of 18,647 active cases across the country, FCT sits at the far top of the list with 7,271 patients; Nasarawa comes next with 1,865, and Lagos has the third highest figure with 1,273 current infections.
More than two-thirds (137,875) of the over 158,000 people infected by COVID-19 in Nigeria have recovered after treatment.
Additionally, Nigeria has conducted 1,544,008 tests so far, less than one per cent of the 200 million inhabitants of Africa’s most populous nation.
