Just In: Again, Bandits Storm Kaduna School, Kidnap Many Primary Pupils, Teachers
Gunmen suspected to be bandits have reportedly attacked UBE Primary School, Rama in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna state, abducting a yet-to-be ascertained number of pupils and teachers.
According to DailyPost, the gunmen who came on motorcycles arrived at the school around 9am on Monday.
A resident, Abdulsalam Adam, told the publication the gunmen came on about 12 motorcycles, saying;
I have been told that three teachers and some pupils have been abducted but we are trying to ascertain the true situation. Right now, our vigilante boys and other volunteers have gone after the bandits.
We are in the school right now, what we are trying to do is comb the bushes because some of the children ran into the bush. So, we don’t know how many were abducted at the moment.
Another resident, Mai Saje Rama, said teachers were also abducted along with the pupils, stressing;
There is a particular parent whose name is Halilu. He said he saw them carry his son on a motorcycle.
Most of them decided to brave it by going after the bandits. We are in the school and we have sent for security agents but they have not arrived yet.
Mohammadu Birnin Gwari, a resident of Birnin Gwari, said two of his brothers were among the teachers abducted. He gave their names as Umar Hassan and Rabiu Salisu Takau.
The incident comes few days after bandits abducted many students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka in the Igabi Local Government Area of the state.

Few hours later, Kaduna state government announced that 172 students were rescued by the help of Nigerian Army, while over 30 of them are still in captivity.
The gunmen have since released several videos showing the abducted students being maltreated as they beg the governments to pay the N500m ransom being demanded by the criminals.
Parents of the students had also confirmed that the abductors have reached out and are demanding the large sum of money.

Another similar case was the abduction of over 300 female students of Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Zamfara state on February 26.

On February 17, gunmen struck the Government Secondary School in Kagara, Niger State, abducting school pupils, teachers, and workers.

Also on December 11, 2020, 344 secondary schoolboys were abducted from Kankara in Katsina, the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari, while he was there.

In February 2018, 110 schoolgirls were also abducted by Boko Haram from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State. Five died in the process while others were later released, except Leah Sharibu, a Christian girl who refused to renounce her faith.
Hundreds of schoolgirls were also kidnapped in Chibok in 2014 by Boko Haram, some of whom have not been released till date.
Kaduna state police command or the state government were, as at the time of filing this report, yet to confirm the latest development.
