Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has on Friday, March 12 received his first shot Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
It would be recalled that the first consignment of 507,000 doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine provided by the Federal Government arrived in Lagos on Tuesday.

According to Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on New Media, his principal took the first dose of the vaccine at Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH), Yaba.

He revealed that the Governor was the second person to receive the vaccine today after the Commissioner of Health, Akin Abayomi.

Sanwo-Olu, while commending health workers, expressed that he felt no pain after taking the shot.

On Wednesday, Governor Sanwo-Olu while speaking to the country’s representative of World Health Organisation (WHO), Walter Mulombo, during a courtesy visit at the State House, Alausa, revealed that vaccination would commence in the state by weekend.
He explained that a steering committee set up for the vaccine administration was in its final stage of preparation for the deployment of the vaccine, confirming that the state had a clear-cut strategy for the vaccine distribution.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said the curve of the second wave of the virus had been flattened in Lagos, but pointed out that the state still faced some challenging issues in the response.
He said the state had put in place an elaborate process to ensure the vaccine administration succeeds.
