Ogun state police command have on Monday debunked reports about the mysterious death of at least 50 people, after attending a birthday party hosted by a suspected internet fraudster at Akute area of the State.
According to TheGuardian, Ogun police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi declared that “It’s a rumour” during a phone conversation.
According to report, the suspected Yahoo boy celebrated his birthday party in a grand style at Titi’s Concept hotel last Sunday with several people in attendance. Unfortunately, it was alleged that at least 50 persons died mysteriously afterwards.
A Twitter user, Pelumi Awotedu, who reported that alleged incident on March 18, alleged that the incident happened last week and since then there have been numerous reports of young people losing their lives in the area.
The tweet reads;
A Yahoo boy did birthday party this last Sunday, and over 50 friends of his who attended the party are dead already. The toll still counting… This happened around Alagbole Akute. May God help us.

The tweet started getting attention again on Sunday after a screenshot of it was shared by a social media post aggregator @Postsubman via its Twitter handle.
Due to the dynamic of the alleged incident, many Nigerians have attributed to ritual activities. Some fraudsters are known to be fetish, hence the rumour of the alleged mass death gained traction with many people who believed they could have been killed through diabolic means.
