Sanwo-Olu Gifts Veteran Yoruba Actor, Iya Awero 3-Bedroom FlatLagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has on Wednesday gifted Nollywood veteran, Lanre Hassan better known as Iya Awero a three-bedroom flat in newly commissioned Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Housing Estate, Igbogbo in Ikorodu.

He handed her the keys of the apartment as he commissioned, delivered and renamed the LagosHoms, Igbogbo after the former deputy governor of Lagos and political leader in Ikorodu, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye.

Sanwo-Olu handed her the keys to the apartment during the commissioning on Wednesday.

The governor’s chief press secretary, Gboyega Akosile shared the video of the presentation on Twitter.

Sanwo-Olu while presenting the gift to Iya Awero noted that veteran thespians should be celebrated while they are alive.

He expressed;

We don’t need to celebrate them when they die, we can celebrate them while they are still alive. These are our Nollywood stars that have worked for over 30-40 years and they need to be celebrated. Congratulations ma. Thank you.

Sanwo-Olu commissioned the estate with 360 home units comprising 120 one bedroom, 120 two bedrooms and 120 three bedrooms homes at Bayeku road, Igbogbo.

The project is a follow up scheme for Oba Adeboruwa Estate also situated along Igbogbo Baiyeku road. It was initiated to provide more homes for Lagosians residing in Ikorodu axis.

Speaking in Yoruba, the 70-year-old actress thanked the governor and his deputy Obafemi Hamzat, praying that God will also provide for them.

The elated actress said;

I don’t know what to say. I am so short of words. I am so happy today. Thank you so much, my governor, may the Almighty Allah continue to bless you. Also, deputy, thank you so much. I am so grateful. If anyone shelters you whenever you wake up, all you do is pray for the person. God will keep blessing, helping and supporting you. This our land will be peaceful, God will fix Nigeria and take the country to greater heights. Once again I thank everyone for this gift.

The 70-year-old actress began her career in the movie industry with Ojo Ladipo Theatre Group.

Her acting career has spanned over four decades and she has featured in both the Yoruba and English speaking sectors of the film industry.

She has featured in movies such as King of Boys, Owo Blow, Family on Fire, Sade Blade, among others.
