“You’re Never Going To Make Money Being A Singer” – Seyi Shay Tells 17-Year-Old Boy During Audition, Receives Backlash Over Comment (Video)
Singer, Seyi Shay has come under heavy censure for criticising a 17-year-old boy who auditioned at a music competition, Nigerian Idol.
While giving her comment about the teenager’s performance during the audition as one of the three judges on the show, Seyi Shay declared that he was not good enough and that he can’t amount be successful as a singer.
The artiste said;
I can’t believe what I just heard. Who told you to come here and audition? Somebody lied to you, go back and tell that person they are not your friend, because that was not a good audition. You have a good talking voice and it comes out in your singing voice but your performance is terrible.
Seyi Shay added;
You are never going to make money being a singer. I love you, you are so sweet but you are not a singer. If it’s for song writing, hit me up and we’ll talk but that thing (singing) is not gonna work. Sorry darling.
Imagine Seyi Shay telling a 17 year old with good voice, who has passion for singing that “YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO MAKE MONEY BEING A SINGER”. Cos you’re God abi?pic.twitter.com/QZsBVNWutG

Even if the person is that terrible, at least let them down easy 😔😔.

Seyi Shay’s choice of words are actually worse than that boy’s performance

What on earth is wrong with Seyi Shay??? There’s something called objective criticism for a reason! She lacks emotional intelligence… there are things you say that can break a person’s confidence, and they might never gain it back! Rubbish!!!#NigerianIdol

Seyi Shay shattered that boys confidence to the ground,buried it&stepped her foot on it. Telling him “You are never going to make money being a singer” Same Seyi Shay that said “EP means Electric Pole” didn’t even give him chance to talk sef,he said he was nervous&it was obvious

Seyi Shay should have literally passed her judgement without being condescending. If you have to say NO, just say it without mocking them.

There are idiots on this app comparing seyi shay to simon cowell?
Even if Simon is being harsh, he stays on point and criticizes the performance.
When has Simon ever said to a 17 year old.
“You’ll never make money from singing” ?

Seyi shay had just one job that is to constructively criticize a performance and not attack their self esteem she failed at it again just like her music career .
This is terrible

Seyi Shay went from being a judge at an audition to judging a boy’s whole career.
Too much for someone we didn’t know still exists if not for the show. #NigerianIdol— Ayò the first 👑 (@aystickz) March 28, 2021

The forced savagery Seyi Shay and DJ Sose are forming on Nigerian idol is very unnecessary.
