Abductors Of Students Of Greenfield University In Kaduna Demand N800m RansomAbductors of students of Greenfield University, a private university located in Kaduna state, have contacted their parents to demand a collective ransom of N800 million.

The academic institution, Green Field University, is located along Kaduna–Abuka Highway in Chikun Local Government Area, and also the first private university in the state established three years ago.

Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the incident on Wednesday morning but could not ascertain the number of students taken away.

Additionally, eyewitnesses said the gunmen stormed the university last night and started shooting sporadically, before leading some of the students away.

According to TheNation, the abductors threatened to kill the students if the ransom is not paid.

A cousin to one of the kidnapped students, Georgina Stephen, confirmed the development, saying 23 students, including 14 females and staff of the university, were abducted.

She stated that the kidnappers have been beating the abducted students, insisting if the ransom is not paid they will kill all of them.

Another parent, who craved anonymity, confirmed the development, saying the kidnappers called to demand a collective ransom of N800 million.

He could not however confirm the number of the abducted students.

In recent time, Kaduna state has been facing series of attacks by bandits including assaults on schools.

The latest incident is the first major attack that bandits will launch on communities around the Kaduna-Abuja Highway since 300 female soldierswere deployed to the general area in January this year.

It would be recalled that on March 11, gunmen attacked Federal College of Forestry Mechanization Afaka in Igabi Local Government Area of the state and kidnapped 39 students.

While ten out of the number have been released, the fate of the remaining ones still hangs in the balance.
