Buhari Appoints Usman Alkali As Acting IGPActing Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba has on Thursday ordered the disbandment of IGP Monitoring Satellite offices in Lagos and Port Harcourt, Rivers States with immediate effect.

According to ThePunch, the decision follows what he described as incessant complaints of harassment and operating beyond their briefs over cases of investigations.

The development comes 24 hours after Police Service Commission asked the IGP to check the proliferation of police investigating units.

The commission stated that the units were bringing huge embarrassments to the force as its chairman, Musiliu Smith, expressed that there must be proper and close monitoring of police investigative units to stem the atrocities its officials committed in the line of duty.

The retired IGP also stressed the need to quickly treat cases of misconduct by the officers “so that those found wanting are brought to book”.

The IGP Monitoring Teams have been accused of various human rights abuses and gross corruption, just like it was with the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

More details to come.
