Anambra Commissioner Abducted During Attack On Soludo Regains Freedom

Emeka Ezenwanne, commissioner for public utilities in Anambra state, has on Sunday morning, April 4 been released by his kidnappers.

It would be recalled that he was abducted on Wednesday when gunmen attacked Charles Soludo, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), while meeting with youths in Aguata LGA of the state.

Three police officers providing security for him were killed in the attack, but Soludo managed to escape.

The abducted commissioner was, however, been released on Sunday morning, after four days in the custody of the kidnappers.

Confirming the development, Ikenga Tochukwu, police spokesperson in the state, said the abductors were forced to release Ezenwanne after security agencies started trailing them closely.

He said five suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.

Tochukwu in a statement expressed;

The Anambra State Police Command today 4th April 2021, wishes to confirm to the members of the public, especially the people of Anambra, the safety of Engr Emeka Ezenwanne, the State Commissioner for Public Utilities.

The police, military and other security agencies had mounted intense search and rescue efforts, which had closed in on his abductors, thereby forcing his release.

The Commissioner returned home unhurt, in the early hours of today 4th April 2021.

The Police Command had arrested five suspects in connection with the incident and remains committed to apprehending the remaining gang members.

The attack on Soludo comes over a month after Soludo announced his intention to contest for the forthcoming Anambra governorship election under the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
