Police Arrest One Person In Connection With Attack On Ex-CBN Gov, Charles Soludo

70-Year-Old Man Arrested For Allegedly Raping 7-Year-Old Girl In JigawaAnambra State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the attack on former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Charles Soludo, less than 24 hours after the incident. 

The governorship aspirant was attacked at a campaign rally at a civic centre in Isuofia community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra state.

Three policemen reportedly lost their lives during the attack, which occurred at about 5.30 p.m. on March 31.

Soludo is a top contender for the governorship race on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance. The election is slated for November 6.

A statement issued on Thursday in Awka by the Spokesman of Anambra State Police Command, DSP. Tochukwu Ikenga, said that arrest took place after a police team was commissioned to undertake discrete investigation into the attack.

Ikenga expressed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Kuryas led a team of security operatives for an on-the-spot assessment at the site of the incident.

He stated;

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Monday Bala Kuryas, in the evening hours of 31st March, 2021, led a crack team of Police Operatives for on-the-spot assessment of the venue of a stakeholders/community meeting at Isuofia Civic Centre in Aguata LGA, which came under attack same date at about 1730hrs, by a yet to be identified armed hoodlums.

The assailants were resisted by security operatives present at the event and in the ensuing gun duel, three Police Operatives sustained severe gunshots injuries and were later confirmed dead in the hospital, while their corpses have been deposited in the mortuary.

The spokesman noted;

Following the incidence, the attackers abducted one Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne, the State Commissioner for Water Resources and Public Utilities. Meanwhile, one person has been arrested in connection with the act.

Ikenga stressed that the CP also visited the Former CBN Governor, Prof. Soludo to reinforce the security in his house and the community entirely.

He expressed;

To this end, the CP while condemning the act, commiserate with the family and friends of the officers who paid the supreme price, ordered the immediate launch of a tacit investigation to unravel the mystery behind the incidence as well as bringing perpetrators of the barbaric act to book.

The spokesman also called on the residents in the state to join hands in the fight against crime and criminality.

In his response, the PPRO, said Soludo thanked the Commissioner and his team for the quick response.
