USSD: Banks Unblock MTN, Reconnect Customers To Banking Channels
Commercial banks have reportedly reconnected MTN customers to banking channels like Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) and banking apps after disconnecting them since Friday.
According to ThePunch, the issue was rectified following the intervention of Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami and Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele.
It would be recalled that banks on Friday disconnected MTN customers from banking channels, leaving millions of MTN subscribers frustrated as they were unable to recharge airtime via USSD amid Easter celebrations.

Telecommunication companies reduced banks’ commission from an average of 3.5 per cent to 2.5 per cent which predicated the actions of the banks.
Banks wrote MTN to revert to the old commission, otherwise, they would block MTN airtime in all their channels.
The banks, except Zenith Bank which was connected directly to MTN, subsequently blocked MTN from their banking channels, leaving customers stranded as they were unable to recharge virtually.

Reacting to the drama, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, said the matter would be resolved, expressing;
We have reached an advance stage of resolving the issues, for the services to be restored to our citizens.

On its part, MTN snubbed the banks and offered customers alternative electronic payment platforms such as Flutterwave, Jumia Pay, OPay, Kuda, Carbon and BillsnPay.
