Again, Buhari Meets Service Chiefs Over InsecurityPresident Muhammadu Buhari has again summoned security chiefs for a crucial meeting to address the security challenges in some parts of the country.

The meeting, which started at 10am, is taking place in the conference hall of the office of the first lady, state house, Abuja.

Although the agenda of the meeting is still unknown, it is expected that the current security situation in the country will be discussed.

Meanwhile, the security meeting today is coming as a follow-up on the previous ones, held on Friday, April 30th, 2021, and continued on Monday, 4th of May respectively.

The meeting also comes less than 24 hours after Presidency on Monday, May 10 announced that there was a ‘foolish attempt’ to burgle the residence of Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.

After initial tagging the report as ‘fake news’, the Presidency through Malam Garba Shehu via this Twitter handle said;

There was a foolish attempt to burgle his (Gambari’s) residence at 3:00am this morning but it turned out to be unsuccessful.

Those who attended the previous meetings were Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF); Ibrahim Gambari, chief of staff to the president, and Babagana Munguno, national security adviser (NSA); Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), Lucky Irabor, chief of defense staff; Ibrahim Attahiru, chief of army staff; Awwal Zubairu, chief of naval staff, and Ishiaka Amoo, chief of air staff.

Others were Bashir Magashi, minister of defense; Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, and Geoffrey Onyeama, minister of foreign affairs, who is also attending the security meeting for the first time.

 

Usman Alkali Baba, acting inspector-general of police (IGP); Yusuf Bichi, director-general of the department of state services (DSS); Ahmed Abubakar, director-general of the national intelligence agency (NIA), and Samuel Adebayo, chief of defence intelligence, were also in attendance.

The security threats in the country have failed to abate, with daily attacks and deaths recorded in different states.
