Ogun State Government has put a temporary stop to the sale of industrial gas in the state to put an end to multiple gas explosions in Abeokuta.
This followed a series of gas explosions experienced in Abeokuta within 10 days, which killed about 10 persons and injured some others.

It was able to trace the outlet where the gas was purchased at Omida area of the town and seal it, Vanguard reports.
The two main factories that supplied gas and oxygen to retailers at Idi-Ori and Obada -Oko axis of the state were equally sealed.
The State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Barr. Femi Ogunbanwo, said this during a stakeholders meeting in Abeokuta.
Ogunbanwo directed that retailers of gas to technicians and welders should stop selling till further notice.

According to Ogunbanwo, all major stakeholders in the gas sector are expected to abide by the directives, saying;
Anyone found guilty of selling adulterated gas products or violating safety protocols would have full weight of the law to contend with.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya described the incidence as an ugly development, which must be nipped in the bud.
Earlier, a team consisting of Barr. Femi Ogunbanwo, Mr. Ola Oresanya, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Engr. Rasaki Ojetola and other government officials had visited different sites of the explosion and some gas plant outlets, which necessitated the seal of two of the plants in Omida and Idi-Ori in Abeokuta metropolis.

Meanwhile, Ogun State Technical Team is investigating the causes of multiple gas explosions in Abeokuta and has sealed off a retail outlet.
The Technical Team which comprises the Police, the Department of State Security, the Department of Petroleum Resources, the Fire Service and Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) have been moving from place to place to ascertain the possible causes of the explosions.
A stakeholders meeting is being expected later in the day to know a way out of the crisis and forestall further recurrence of such.
