A young man arrested for stealing plantain bunches from a farm in a community in Bayelsa state has claimed he committed the crime in order to raise money for his girlfriend’s makeup.
According to Facebook post shared by community leaders on Monday, May 24, the suspect was caught in Ebedebiri, Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.
During interrogation by a community leader, Peres Double, the suspect claimed that his girlfriend demanded for N10,000 supposedly to buy makeup and had given him a deadline to get the money.
He said; “My girlfriend demanded for N10,000 to buy makeup items and she gave me a deadline to pay her”.
The suspected thief from Angiama community, noted that he became so frustrated as the deadline drew close, which made him harvest plantains from people’s farms in Ebedebiri with the hope of selling them.
Following the interrogation, the suspect whose name was not provided begged for forgiveness from community leaders and farmers who he stole from.
