Presidency Says There Was A ‘Foolish, Unsuccessful Attempt’ To Burgle Chief Of Staff’s Residence
Presidency has on Monday, May 10 announced that there was a ‘foolish attempt’ to burgle the residence of Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.
An online platform earlier reported that both Gambari and an administrative officer at the presidency identified as Abubakar Maikano, were robbed.
According to the report, which has been trending online, armed robbers invaded Aso Rock and emptied the residences of Gambari and Maikano.

After initial tagging the report as ‘fake news’, the Presidency through Malam Garba Shehu via this Twitter handle said;
There was a foolish attempt to burgle his (Gambari’s) residence at 3:00am this morning but it turned out to be unsuccessful.

He added;

According to the publication, the incident which happened on Sunday, May 9 prompted Ibrahim Gambari and Abubakar Maikano, the chief of staff and admin officer, respectively, to abandon their residences.
“Their houses were robbed and the robbers packed money and other valuable assets from both houses,” an aide to the informed about the robbery told The Gazette.
A source told the publication;
The robbers took away as much as possible from both places. What is more unfortunate is that no one has been arrested.
Officials also said Mr Gambari was given an official residence at the Defence House, but has not been living there, preferring instead to live inside Aso Rock and be close to the president.
The country’s presidential palace just east of the city centre has long been seen as highly fortified and far beyond the reach of burglars, bandits and other criminals currently holding the vast swathes of the country to ransom.
