Women Journalists Demand Apology From Broadcaster, ‘Ordinary President’ For Slapping Woman Accused Of Burning Child’s Head Over Alleged WitchcraftNigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has demanded an unreserved apology from Human Rights radio presenter, Ahmed Isah, popularly known as ‘ordinary president’, for physically assaulting a lady accused of burning the head of a child during a live TV interview.

NAWOJ National President, Ladi Bala described the action of the radio presenter as unwarranted and totally undignified.

The assault came to light in a BBC documentary that’s generated much controversy since it went live and widely reported as “BBC unmasks the true face of ‘ordinary president’”.

In its latest undercover investigation video, BBC Reporter Peter Nkanga spent one-month filming with Ahmed Isah at his Human Rights Radio and TV studios in the capital city Abuja uncovers another side to the popular Radio/TV host.

Even though the reporter said he witnessed firsthand the huge impact of Ahmed’s work on the lives of many ordinary Nigerians, “his often-controversial methods raise serious questions.”

The about thirty minute’s video revealed how the ‘Ordinary President’ violates the rights of some persons brought before him for investigation, including the case of a woman that was physically assaulted on camera by Isa.

Although, the video showed the graphic image of a six-year-old girl with severe burns, who received funding for much-needed hospital treatment after appearing on his show it also showed how Ahmed struck an interviewee across the face on camera.

Reacting to this action, Bala said;

From the trending video, it is clear that Ahmed Isa constituted himself into an authority in the administration of justice wherein he charged his victim, tried, convicted and went ahead to administer the punishment as defined and prescribed by him alone. These are powers that neither the Judiciary nor the Executive arm government does not possess.

She expressed;

Having taken time to watch and analyze the trending and very disturbing video contextually, NAWOJ hereby demands an unreserved public apology and possibly compensation from Ahmed Isa to the assaulted and brutalized lady.

NAWOJ believes that a crime cannot be used to justify another crime on the premise of carrying out an investigation that is totally alien to the provisions of the law in any material particular and journalism practice whatsoever.

Bala added;

The video clip in which Ahmed Isa was seen interrogating the poor lady clearly showed how he not only assaulted her but seriously dehumanized her and reduced her self-esteem to an unacceptable low level of human dignity in spite of her admittance of an alleged crime and equally showed remorse.

Pointedly put, the action of Ahmed Isa completely negates and contradicts what the Human Right station represents.
