‘Always Listen To Your Bodies’ - CNN Journalist, Christiane Amanpour Reveals She’s Battling Ovarian CancerVeteran journalist working with Cable News Network (CNN), Christiane Amanpour has on Monday announced on-air that she is undergoing a round of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

According to HealthLine, ovarian cancer is when abnormal cells in the ovary begin to multiply out of control and form a tumor. If left untreated, the tumor can spread to other parts of the body like pelvis, stomach. This is called metastatic ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer often has warning signs, but the earliest symptoms are vague and easy to dismiss. Twenty percent of ovarian cancers are detected at an early stage.

The 63-year-old British-Iranian journalist returned to hosting her Amanpour global news show on CNN Monday after four weeks off, during which she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and underwent a successful major surgery.


Christiane
began her segment by thanking her program’s staffers and Bianna Golodryga, CNN’s senior global affairs analyst, for filling for her in recent weeks.

She expressed;

I’ve had successful major surgery to remove it and I’m now undergoing several months of chemotherapy for the very best possible long-term prognosis, and I’m confident.

Always listen to your bodies,” she continued, urging viewers to make sure “that your legitimate medical concerns are not dismissed or diminished.

Christiane has covered international affairs at CNN for over 20 years, since the network’s launch in the 1980s.

She says she will undergo three months of chemotherapy “for the best possible long-term prognosis.”

Amanpour added she wanted to tell viewers to encourage women to educate themselves about ovarian cancer and have regular screenings.

She added that the past month has been “a bit of a roller coaster,” but that she feels “confident.”

Amanpour is one of the world’s leading foreign news journalists, and has covered events from the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe to Hurricane Katrina.

She began her career at CNN as an entry-level assistant on the foreign desk before moving up within the ranks of the broadcaster to become its chief international correspondent and the anchor of her own show, Amanpour.

She left CNN for two years to work as an anchor at ABC News before returning in 2012.

Amanpour was married to James Rubin, a former U.S. diplomat who served as Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs under former president Bill Clinton and later worked as a journalist, before divorcing after 20 years of marriage. Together they had one son, Darius, who was born in 2000.
