DSSAhmad Abdul, an Islamic artist who was detained for releasing a song tagged blasphemous, has been released by Department of State Services (DSS).

The artist was detained for publishing the uncensored song “Barhama Gwaska,” which was deemed blasphemous and dangerous to the state.

Ismaila Na’abba Afakallah, Executive Secretary of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board, confirmed the song’s release on Monday, saying he had received hundreds of petitions against it from concerned individuals.

According to Afakallah, he denounced the singer to DSS, who eventually apprehended him in a hotel where he had been hiding for days to avoid the mob.

After spending days in detention, the musician was reunited with his family, according to him.

Afakallah stated;

He has been released as he regretted and apologized over his offence, promising not repeat it again.

When asked why the board did not bring him before a court of law, the Executive Secretary replied;

We are not seeking arraigning people, we just want to see them repenting and rehabilitating. He has previously shown regret and expressed contrition for the offense he committed.

This isn’t the first time that individuals have been involved in a debate over music that are considered profane.
