Expedite Action Towards Release Of Abducted Niger Students - Buhari Charges Security AgentsPresident Muhammadu Buhari has charged the nation’s security and intelligence agencies to expedite efforts towards the recovery of at least 200 children kidnapped from an Islamic school in Niger State.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, made this known on Monday in a statement titled, ‘Expedite action towards release of school children, President Buhari urges law enforcement officials.

On Sunday, May 30, gunmen invaded Tegina community in Rafi Local Government Area, shot one person dead, left one seriously injured and abducted a yet to be confirmed number of Islamiyya students from Salihu Tanko Islamic School alongside some passengers travelling to Minna.

According to the statement, the President, who had been briefed on the latest incident of school kidnapping, condemned the act, describing it as “unfortunate.”

He then urged all the agencies involved in the rescue operation to do their utmost in securing their immediate release.

Buhari also directed that the concerned government agencies to extend possible support to the families of the kidnapped children.

However, 11 of the students were released shortly after by the kidnappers because they are young and couldn’t engage in long walk.
