Reps To Investigate FG’s Twitter Ban, Summons Lai Mohammed
House of Representatives has on Tuesday, June 8 summoned Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed over the suspension of Twitter.
Last Friday, Federal Government suspended Twitter’s operations indefinitely, after accusing the micro-blogging site of “undermining Nigeria’s existence.”
In a statement, Mohammed said the government was forced to act because of “the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence”.
However, Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, in his opening address at plenary on Tuesday, noted that the micro-blogging platform had become a huge communication tool and platform for enterprise especially for the teeming youth in the country.

Gbajabiamila also noted that the lawmakers had been inundated with protests and demands for intervention by the parliament.
The Speaker, however, noted that the House also needs to hear from the government, especially the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who issued the directive suspending the social media app in the country.
