Benin Republic Files New Charges Against Sunday Igboho

Extradition: Sunday Igboho Arrives Beninise CourtBenin Republic has reportedly filed new charges against embattled Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, with the real name Sunday Adeyemo.

According to BBC Yoruba, Ibrahim Salami, one of the Cotonou, Benin Republic-based lawyers of Sunday Igboho, confirmed this on Tuesday.

He said the new charges were filed after previous allegations that warranted placing Igboho on a watchlist were successfully being tackled during the hearing.

Salami noted that Igboho was faced with fresh charges when he appeared in court on Monday, stressing that Igboho was further remanded to allow police to conduct a thorough investigation into the charges.

He listed the fresh charges as illegal migration, dubious connivance with immigration officers and an attempt to cause civil unrest.

The lawyer expressed;

First, the judge ruled that Sunday Igboho entered into the Benin Republic through an illegal means. They also want to investigate how Sunday Igboho conspired with others to enter Benin Republic through wrong means.

They also want to know how long he has been in Benin republic and his plans in the country. They also raised a charge on whether he wants to come and cause unrest or social disturbance in the Benin Republic.

Salami, however, also confirmed that the Federal Government had yet to file formal extradition charges against the Yoruba nation agitator.

He noted that the Nigerian government could not also prove the allegations of arms trafficking, inciting violence that could result in social disturbance and causing disunity.
