Justice Obiora Egwuatu of Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday restrained the Zamfara State House of Assembly, the Chief Judge, and others from effecting the impeachment of the state’s Deputy Governor, Mahdi Gusau.

The judge gave the order while ruling in an ex-parte motion brought by the Peoples Democratic Party.

Zamfara politics was plunged into the national limelight recently after Governor Bello Matawalle defected from PDP to All Progressives Congress.

There have since been claims of Zamfara lawmakers plotting to remove Gusau for allegedly refusing to defect as well.

Lawmakers in the state were also irked by a rally Gusau held with PDP members, days after Governor Matawalle and lawmakers in the state held a mass defection rally. They accused him of being insensitive by holding a rally after some killings in the state.

Then, Zamfara State House of Assembly, earlier this month, asked Gusau to appear before its members on July 27 over the political rally he organised in the state.

However, in Monday’s ruling, Justice Egwuatu stopped the Zamfara State House of Assembly from impeaching Gusau and its other members who are still in the PDP.
