Just In: Judge Adjourns Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Till October As DSS Fail To Produce IPOB Leader In Court
Binta Nyako, judge of Federal High Court, has on Monday adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), till October 21, owing to the failure of the federal government to produce him in court.
The lawyer representing the Federal Government in the case cited logistics reasons for the disobedience of court order, which previously said Kanu should be returned to court on July 26 to hear bail application.
In June, Nnamdi Kanu was arrested and extradited to Nigeria to face trial and was remanded in DSS custody after he was re-arraigned before the judge.
Kanu, is facing charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, illegal possession of arms, among others, before Justice Binta Nyako of Federal High Court in Abuja.

Buhari administration in September 2017 outlawed IPOB and declared that the activities of the group constituted an act of terrorism and illegality.
Before then, Kanu was arrested and jailed but was released from Kuje Prison in Abuja for health reasons after meeting bail conditions.
However, the IPOB leader later jumped bail and fled the country and operated from overseas before he was recently rearrested.

Kanu also formed the Eastern Security Network which the police have accused of being the masterminds of attacks on police stations, prisons and symbols of democracy in the zone but Kanu had denied the allegations.
Before he jumped bail in 2017, Kanu was facing 11 charges including terrorism, treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, publication of defamatory matter, illegal possession of firearms and improper importation of goods.
