Dumanis Church Reportedly Hands Over Youths To DSS For Wearing ‘Buhari Must Go’ Shirts

Some youths have on Sunday been reportedly arrested for wearing ‘Buhari Must Go’ T-shirts to a service at Dunamis Gospel Church Headquarters in Lugbe, Abuja.

According to activist, Omoyele Sowore, the activists were handed over to Department of State Services by security officers in the church founded by Pastor Paul Enenche.

He revealed that the 10 youths who were first time worshippers were invited for prayer and upon obeying the call in their shirts protesting against the Buhari regime. They were subsequently apprehended by the church security men.

Sowore said;

About 10 activists decided to attend Dunamis church in their #BuhariMustGo T-shirts. The church asked all first timers to come out for prayers. The patriotic citizens obeyed the clarion call from the Altar with their fully displayed #BuhariMustGo shirt.

The publisher of SaharaReporters stressed;

They were immediately apprehended by the church security on their way out of the church and subsequently handed to the DSS. Kudos to the courageous activists for this creativity. I’m certain if the activists had worn a shirt inscribing “sai Buhari”.

Shortly after, he added;

Sowore’s comments were also confirmed by some concerned citizens who stormed the comment section on the cleric’s live sermon on Facebook, demanding the release of the activists.

Meanwhile, a top church official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to ThePunch, as he was not permitted to speak on the issue confirmed the incident.

He said;

Those people sneaked into the church, I used the word sneaked because the church was not aware of their intention, no department in the church knew anything.

They even came out for altar call and before you know it we saw that they had ‘Buhari must go’ T-shirts and they were recording people making it seem as if the church planned the protest.

The top official added;

We had to hand them over to security operatives because we believe in three things. It is either they were sent in by agencies to make sure that the church is at loggerheads with the government or either make it seem like the church sponsored the protest.

Third is even if they have a genuine protest, the church is not the right place to go. If there is a problem in the country, the duty of the church is to pray that God help our leaders. We have handed them over to the authorities for investigations.

However, the church management was yet to react to the incident that had sparked condemning reactions from many Nigerians on social media.

The incident comes barely three months after Pastor Enenche lambasted Buhari administration for having “zero leadership qualities”, following the wave of kidnappings, killings, and destruction of properties ravaging the country, particularly his home state, Benue.

In his address, the popular cleric accused the leadership of the country of complacency in the face of the worsening insecurity, describing them and “space-occupying lesions”, just as he called for their immediate resignation.

This comes amid growing call for impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari following his incompetence in combating major challenges facing the country, including economic problems.
