Aston Villa have on Wednesday, August 4 announced the surprise signing of Danny Ings on a three-year deal from Southampton.
Ings joined for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £30m, and he just one year left on his deal on the south coast.
He scored 46 goals in 100 appearances for the Saints (Southampton) ever since joining from Liverpool, initially on loan, in the summer of 2018.
The 29-year-old also has three England caps, scoring his one goal for his country in a friendly against Wales last October.
Speaking about the new deal, Villa boss, Dean Smith said;
Danny is an outstanding Premier League footballer who has scored goals wherever he has played. He is also a top professional with a great character who will be a leader in our squad and a role model for our rapidly developing young Academy players who are now in and around the first team. I am delighted to welcome Danny to our great Club.
Ings joins Leon Bailey, Emi Buendia and Ashley Young in moving to Villa Park this summer, with the club set to confirm the departure of captain Jack Grealish in the coming days as he is on his way to Manchester City and will complete a medical at the club tomorrow morning ahead of a £100M/$140M transfer.
The highly-rated Bailey joins from Bayer Leverkusen, and he says he can’t wait to get going.
“For me, it’s a great club with a big history and it’s the right step for me. I’m excited to get started,” he told the club website.
