Just In: Latifat Tijani Wins Nigeria’s First Gold At Tokyo 2020 Paralympics In Women’s 45kg Powerlifting
Latifat Tijani has on Thursday, August 26 won the first gold medal for Nigeria at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
She took part in the women’s -45kg powerlifting on Thursday, August 26, 2021, and came top place by defeating China’s Zhe Cui to lift 107kg.

Chinese powerlifter Cui Zhe came second by lifting 102kg while Justyna Kozdryk of Poland won the bronze medal with 101kg lift.
Tijani began powerlifting in 2004 in Ogun State, Nigeria, and made her international debut for Nigeria in 2015 at Brazzaville Africa Games where she won a gold medal.
At Rio 2016 Paralympics, she snagged a silver medal but has now upgraded that to a gold with her latest victory.
In 2019, she received a Sporting Achievement award from Ogun State Para Powerlifting Association in Nigeria.
