UNIJOS Suspends Ongoing Exams Over Killing Of 22 Muslim TravellersManagement of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Plateau State, has suspended its ongoing second-semester exams over the unrest caused by the killing of Muslim travellers in Jos on Saturday.

It would be recalled that MDB reported that at least 22 people were killed and 14 injured during the attack in the northern part of Plateau State.

According to a statement released by Abdullahi Abdullahi, the university’s Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications, on Sunday, all exams scheduled to hold between August 16 and 21 are “suspended until further notice”.

The statement reads in part;

Following the unfortunate security breach that occurred in some parts of Jos metropolis, which has led the Plateau State Government to impose a 24-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area, the management of the University of Jos has approved the suspension of the ongoing second-semester examinations for the 2019/2020 academic session.

Consequently, all examinations earlier scheduled for between Monday, 16, and Saturday, 21 August, 2021, have been suspended until further notice.

In compliance with the state government’s directives, UNIJOS students are also advised to remain in their hostels until the situation is calmed.

Abdullahi added;

All Students of the university residing in the various hostels are hereby strongly advised to remain within their hostels of residence and avoid unnecessary movements as management has been working round the clock in close collaboration with security agencies and the Plateau State Government to ensure that lives and properties of members of the university community, especially students, are adequately protected.

Students that are resident outside the campus are also advised to remain at home during this period.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, has dispatched an intervention team to Plateau State to carry out an on-the-spot assessment and ensure a coordinated response to the bloodshed in the state

The team is led by the Deputy Inspector -General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Sanusi Lemu, who is also the coordinating DIG, North-Central geo-political zone.

It comprised personnel of Police Tactical Units – the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Police Special Forces, the Force Criminal Investigations Department  and the Force Intelligence Bureau.

The operatives will provide additional investigative, intelligence and forensic support to the Plateau State Police Command in the ongoing investigations and rescue operations.

This was contained in a statement on Sunday by the police spokesman, Frank Mba, adding that 20 suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack while 33 victims were rescued.
