Police Arraign 25-Year-Old Farmer For Allegedly Killing, Burying Mother
Oyo State Police Command has arraigned a 25-year-old farmer, Solomon Ochadi, before a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ibadan, for allegedly killing his mother, Elizabeth Ochadi.
The police arraigned the suspect on one count of murder.
Police Prosecutor, Opeyemi Olagunju, who is an Inspector of Police, told the court that the accused person pushed his mother to the wall in their house and this led to the death of the 50-year-old woman.
The policeman told the court that following this, the accused person was arrested in August around the Jerusalem area in Ojoo, Ibadan.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 316 and was punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
Telling the court how the incident happened, the prosecutor said the accused person had requested food from the deceased after returning from farm hungry and the deceased told him there was no food at home.
He said the man became angry on hearing this and he pushed his mother against the wall and she died.
Olagunju narrated further that Solomon went ahead to dig a grave behind their house and buried the woman there.
However, he said, his younger siblings, who saw what happened, alerted the police and he was arrested.
Magistrate, Olaide Hamzat, did not take the plea of the suspect, adding that the court lacked jurisdiction over the case.
He ordered that the case file and evidence be forwarded to Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice and he adjourned the case to November 23 for mention.
