Just In: Facebook, WhatsApp And Instagram Down Across The World
WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook have experienced an outage in Nigeria and several other parts for the world, users reported on Monday evening.
All three apps are owned by Facebook and run on shared infrastructure.
“Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can,” a message on the Facebook website said.
Per Down Detector, a crowdsourced website that tracks online outages, the three social networks appeared to be having widespread issues since Monday afternoon. The company’s status tracking website was also down around noon ET.
The website downdetector.com, which tracks web services, also reported a sharp spike in complaints by users.
The portal showed there were more than 20,000 incidents of people reporting issues with Facebook and Instagram.
As is often the case with these outages, users flocked to other social networks, especially Twitter to note that these social networks were down.
“Instagram and Facebook” has been the top trending topic on Twitter in Nigeria with “WhatsApp” and #instagramdown also gaining traction.
It was not immediately clear what caused the issue for the three Facebook-owned properties or when any of the services might be restored but WhatsApp asked users to exercise patience.
We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible.
Thanks for your patience!
