At least three explosions have rocked Maiduguri, Borno State Capital on Thursday ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit.
According to ChannelsTV, the explosion occurred in three different locations – Bulumkutu, Ajilari Cross and Ayaje.
One of the missiles also landed at Ajilari Cross area, near Maiduguri airport where there is a military base.
The bombs reportedly landed on several houses around the vicinity, causing extensive damage that was difficult to quantify, as at the time of filing this report.
President Buhari is scheduled to commission an edifice donated by Mohammed Indimi to the University of Maiduguri.
He is also expected to commission some projects executed by Borno State Governor, Zulum Babagana.
It is not clear at this time if the president’s itinerary will be affected by the explosions.
Borno is the epicentre of insurgency war in Nigeria. The state has been at the end of incessant deadly attacks by terrorist groups–Boko Haram and the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP).
