Lagos Assembly’s First Female Deputy Speaker, Adetoun Adediran Dies
First female deputy speaker of the Lagos state house of assembly, Adetoun Adediran, has passed on.
Adediran, who was also a former women leader of the All Progressive Congress, Lagos chapter, was said to have died in the early hours of Wednesday after a brief illness.
Spokesperson of the Lagos APC, Mr Seye Oladejo, confirmed her deaths, adding;
She was a former women leader for Lagos Central, a consummate politician and a committed leader of her people who contributed immensely to the growth of the party and the development of Lagos State. She will be sorely missed.
Adediran represented Surulere Constituency 1 in the 4th Lagos State House of Assembly between 1999 and 2003 and was the first female to be elected deputy speaker. Adeleke Mamora was the speaker at the time.
She held many political offices including and was also the women leader of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
There was a twist in the report of her death on Wednesday afternoon when social media platforms were flooded with posts indicating that she “sneezed” while being bathed in preparation for the burial.
A video wherein people were seen jubilating that Adediran was alive after she was reported dead also appeared on the social media. However, she was later confirmed dead by a doctor.
