Lagos Shuts Medville Hospital Over Negligence In Death Of Patient During Childbirth
Lagos state government has temporarily shut down operations at Medville Global Health Center.
Abiola Idowu, executive secretary of Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to Idowu, preliminary investigations carried out by the team revealed that the hospital is not registered with HEFAMAA, and that it had inadequate personnel.
The decision to shut the facility, located at Ago Palace Way in the Okota axis of the state, followed an investigation by the agency after one Triplem Mchaty accused the hospital of incompetence resulting in his wife’s death.
He took to Twitter on Sunday to narrate how his wife, who was attending antenatal clinics at the facility, died after she was induced to speed up her labour.
for about 5 months, and later came down to Lagos to stay with my elder sister so she can be looking after her since I am not in town.
My sister’s friend a nurse, asked them to come and register in a hospital where she is working, probably for a referral bonus from the hospital.

Mchaty claimed that his wife needed a blood transfusion after the medical team resorted to carrying out a Caesarean section but the hospital had no blood bank or ambulance.
they asked her to come over to the hospital, on getting there, they induce her to speed up Labour.
After hours of trying to push no way, over 10 hours my wife already got so weak and tired, my sister called me around 11pm that they want to carry out CS on her.

He added that despite all his efforts to meet their demands, she passed on and that the baby is now in an intensive care unit (ICU) in another hospital.
Mchaty said he was required to pay over N500,000 before he could collect his wife’s remains.
to take my sister to General Hospital Isolo to go get blood at that mid night.
I succeeded in getting the blood about 5ptsAround 3am they called me that they want to cut off her womb that she is bleeding, I was shocked because this is her first child she is 28yrs old

They started operating her again to correct the errors.
Unfortunately she couldn’t make it back, she died, they removed the baby boy though but the baby didn’t cry due to prolonged Labour, he drank lots of water and blood.

Right now I took my son to another hospital, he is under ICU now, we are doing different kinds of scans, test, Xray and co, he is using oxygen at moment.
The bills is excess, I am just hoping he can survive.

Solanke Koya, chairman of HEFAMAA board, has ordered a full-scale investigation to uncover the facts surrounding the death of Mchaty’s wife.
The agency said it took the “crucial decision” to shut the facility “in furtherance of public protection pending the final outcome of the ongoing investigations”.
