National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), in collaboration with the National Association of University Students, South-West Zone, has threatened to shut down all international airports if the Federal Government fails to address the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other staff unions’ ongoing strike action.
The students said they had waited long enough for the FG to resolve the crisis in a press statement made available to The PUNCH on Wednesday, May 18.

The statement read in part;
It is timely and urgent to address this press conference today with a view of putting an end to the long lingering strike action of ASUU and ASUP; and for a total reformation of the educational sector.
The leadership of NANS Zone D in conjunction with NAUS has taken it upon itself to categorically stand against the dilapidated state of the educational sector in Nigeria.
NANS further noted;
We have waited a long time to see if the Federal Government will respond to the cries of Nigerian students for an end to the ASUU strike; yet the opposite is true. We’ve staged a number of news conferences, granted interviews; and held a number of meetings to plead with both ASUU and the federal government. Our future has been put in jeopardy. We live in a country where age is a major determinant of employment.

We must state categorically to the Federal Government that all activities shall be shut down. This is by over 22 million Nigerian students across South-West Nigeria until ASUU/ASUP strike is called off.
