President Muhammadu Buhari has berated the opposition Peoples Democratic Party over the appalling state of the economy, before his administration in 2015.

Buhari made this disclosure on Wednesday morning, June 8, at the Eagle Square in Abuja, the venue of the presidential primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The President recalled the state of the economy pre-2015; detailing the level of corruption and moribund infrastructure as insecurity plagued various parts of the country during the tenure of the PDP.

He said:

Many people have short memories but let us recall the situation we inherited. There was insecurity and debt despite oil revenue; infrastructure left to decay, internationally, we were despised. The APC Govt changed all that.

Our response to the challenges is prompt and rehabilitation of infrastructure has been massive. We have implemented reforms in democratic reforms which has led to respect internationally.

Buhari also urged stakeholders to ensure unity, no matter the outcome of the elections; in order to emerge victorious against the opposition PDP in 2023.

I commend all the party stakeholders led by Abdullahi Adamu over their efforts towards organising party’s exercises and not to rest on achievements, so far.

I congratulate all the winners on our platform ahead of the 2023 elections and to be magnanimous in victory while abiding by party rules and reconciliation processes. In every event, there are bound to be victors and losers and I urge a spirit of sportsmanship and stand by the APC ahead of the great challenges ahead.

We must avoid acrimony while creating a level playing field in the primaries. Kindly follow due process in all the party’s decisions; and call on all delegates to abide by all extant laws. Please let us work collectively in the interest of our party and great country.
