Mary Njoku Says Nigeria Is ‘Safe Haven For Quack Surgeons’
Nigerian actress and business woman, Mary Njoku has stated that Nigeria is rapidly becoming a ‘safe haven‘ for unqualified cosmetic surgeons.
According to the renowned thespian, most ‘unqualified‘ or ‘quack‘ from overseas find it easy to commence work regardless of the competence of the medical practitioner.
The actress stated this via her Instagram page on Friday, June 3, 2022, while reacting to the death of a young lady after a cosmetic surgery gone wrong.
Botched Surgery
On Wednesday, June 1, Moji Delano Blog reported that a young lady who is based in Port Harcourt died after she underwent a botched cosmetic surgery in Lagos State.

A lady who claimed to be Christabel’s friend called out the clinic on Twitter, saying that the deceased complained to the clinic where she did her surgery that she was bleeding.
The friend alleged the clinic informed Christabel it was a normal post-surgery experience; and that the bleeding will stop. Unfortunately, Christabel died afterwards without receiving adequate medical care.
She revealed that when friends didn’t hear from Christabel for days, they visited the hospital where she went for the surgery.
Unfortunately, the hospital allegedly gave them a letter showing that her body has been deposited at the morgue.

The friend also said the hospital didn’t contact any of Christabel’s relatives to let them know of her death or receive permission to bury her.

Cosmetic surgery is fast becoming a prevalent practice amongst most young people in Nigeria, including celebrities and notable socialites.
A couple of years ago, socialite, Omohtee whose real name is Omotola Taiwo Temilade narrated her botched surgery ordeal following her procedure at MedContour cosmetic clinic.

At the time, she had called out the owner of the clinic and surgeon, Dr Anu Adepoju on social media, which sparked outrage among many Nigerians on Twitter.
In an explosive BBC Pidgin interview, Omohtee revealed that following the surgery, she became suicidal and had to spend millions to nurse herself back to life.
The lady revealed that during her recovery period, she kept wondering if anyone would ever want to marry her knowing that she has gone under the knife.
Omohtee stated that she paid N1.2 million for the procedure, which she paid into Dr Anu’s bank account.
