Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) has, on Monday, June 6, commenced an indefinite strike and shut down the National Assembly.

This is in a bid to get the attention of the government to their demands.

It was gathered that PASAN is demanding full implementation of its revised condition of service.

PASAN, in May 2020, had written to the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan; and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, appealing to them to intervene in the alleged plot to stop the implementation of the revised condition of service for members.

According to a member of PASAN EXCO who spoke to the Daily Post, the lawmakers are yet to implement the service condition.

As a result, members of the association have decided to shut down activities of the National Assembly. This is until their needs are met.

The source explained:

The two chapters, National Assembly Commission; and the National Assembly chapter have unanimously agreed that we will are going on an indefinite strike. This is because we have a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU that was signed but the management has refused to implement the agreement.

The MoU was signed on March 21, 2020, but to date, nothing has been implemented.

There was an act on consequential adjustment on minimum wage, the Federal Government has released funds for that. To date, the National Assembly Service is being owed the arrears of that minimum wage.
