Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been instructed by the ex-Anambra Governor, Peter Obi to guarantee that Nigerians are quickly registered ahead of the 2023 general elections.
As the deadline for registering for the new Permanent Voter Cards approaches, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate made the call via Twitter on Thursday.
The electoral authority had previously extended the deadline for new PVC online registration from May 31, 2022 to June 30, 2022. It urged, however, that all registrations be in by June 30.
Taking to Twitter on Thursday, June 9, Peter Obi said his call is to enable millions of Nigerians to exercise their constitutional rights.
Peter Obi tweeted:
Information reaching me indicates that voter registration across Nigeria, more so in the South East, is dogged by inertia & bureaucratic bottlenecks.
I respectfully call on INEC to facilitate speedy registration of Nigerians; to enable them to exercise their voting rights.
