Borno Police Command has revealed that security operatives have arrested a Boko Haram suspect, Mubarak Alhaji Jubunai, in Gamborun Ngala Local Government Area of the state.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Abdu Umar, confirmed this during a press briefing in Maiduguri on Monday, June 13.
He said that the Boko Haram suspect was apprehended by troops of the 3 Battalion of the Nigerian Army on April 28, while attempting to infiltrate the town.
He explained that the suspect was transferred to the police by the 7 Division Intelligence Brigade, Maimalari Cantonment, for further investigation.
Umar said that during the preliminary investigation, the suspect denied being a Boko Haram member, but claimed that he was once an armed robber.
The police boss said that the suspects also claimed to have repented years back, assuring that investigation is ongoing to ascertain his culpability or innocence.
Last month, Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State expressed concerns about the emergence of insurgents and their enclaves in Birnin Gwari and Chukun Local Government Areas of the state.
El-Rufai listed the insurgents as those belonging to Boko Haram and Ansaru terrorist groups.
Vanguard for the Protection of Muslims in Black Africa, better known as Ansaru and less commonly called al-Qaeda in the Lands Beyond the Sahel, is an Islamic fundamentalist Jihadist militant organisation based in the northeast of Nigeria.
The Governor raised the concerns after the presentation of Kaduna State Security Incident Report for the first quarter of 2022.

He also expressed worry at the increasing use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the state, which he said suggested that terrorists had moved into Kaduna State.
El-Rufai noted that the debriefing on the Abuja-Kaduna train attack of March 28 indicated that the terrorists were planning to relocate to Kaduna.
