Assistant coach of Super Eagles, Finidi George, has explained that the men’s football senior national team is in a rebuilding phase, following a series of defeats.
It should be recalled that the Eagles, in January 2022, crashed out of the Africa Cup of Nations in the round of 16 following a perfect performance in the group stage.

The Nigerian football club also would not appear at the Qatar 2022 World Cup after losing out to Ghana on goal aggregate. This led to the exit of interim coach Austine Eguavoen in March.
Meanwhile, in May 2022, the Nigeria Football Federation announced Portuguese, Jose Peseiro as the new Eagles head coach with Finidi as the first assistant.

The Super Eagles were defeated 1-0 against Ecuador in the early hours of Friday to end their US tour on a disappointing note.
Jose Peseiro’s side also lost 2-1 against Mexico in their first friendly last weekend.
In an interview with NFF media team on Thursday, June 2, assistant coach, Finidi expressed his excitement towards the team’s training session as they continue with the rebuilding of the team.

Speaking about the recent series of losses, Finidi stated:
We’ve had a couple of sessions, while in Dallas and I think we liked it. We are building and the building process has started and we’ll see how far we can push the players. It’s been good so far. Let’s see how the second game will go.
He added;
It’s still a building process and a draw won’t be a bad result. If we have the victory, we will take it. If we can have a draw and play a good game, we will all accept it and go back home and build on that.
Nigerians would have to trust the new managing team to rebuilding the national football team and wait patiently for better results from Super Eagles.
