President Muhammadu Buhari has been given a six-week deadline to address the nation’s security issues by senators from opposition parties.
Additionally, they threatened to start impeachment procedures against the President if he did not resolve the security issue within the time frame set by the parliament.
Sen. Phillip Aduda, the minority leader in the Senate, informed reporters of the legislators’ stance on Wednesday, July 27, in the National Assembly in Abuja, the capital of the country.
The opposition legislators staged a walkout before the briefing after calling for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari during Wednesday’s session.

To address the nation’s security situation and the impeachment of President Buhari, Senator Aduda raised a point of order and asked the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.
But Senator Lawan, who presided over the plenary, declined the request of the minority leader, saying the point of order raised fell flat on its face.
All of the senators elected on the platforms of political parties other than the All Progressives Congress (APC) were incensed by the Senate President’s move, and they all took turns leaving the legislative chamber while the plenary was still in session.
The walkout was the most recent in a string of issues brought up by various people and organisations in response to the nation’s increasing level of insecurity.
More Criticism From Stakeholders
Professor Chidi Odinkalu, a human rights campaigner, had already criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for the way it was addressing the nation’s security issues.
During an earlier interview, Odinkalu said;
If the President is in the hospital and under life support, he cannot delegate the job of the Commander-in-Chief, and when the Commander-in-Chief is as lazy and uncaring as the one that Nigeria has, the country is exactly where it deserves to be.
