A Kano High Court on Thursday, July 28, sentenced Abdulmalik Tanko and Hashimu Isyaku to death by hanging for abducting and killing a five-year old pupil of Noble Kids Academy, Hanifa Abubakar.
The Kano State Government had filed five counts of criminal conspiracy, attempt to kidnap, abetment, kidnapping and concealing dead body against Tanko, Hashimu Isyaku, 37, and Fatima Musa, 26, on February 14.
The offence, the state said, contravened the provisions of sections 97, 95 and 273, 274(b) and 277 of the Penal Code, Laws of Kano State, 1991.
In his judgement, Justice Usman Na-Abba, sentenced Mr Tanko (First defendant) to death by hanging and five years for conspiracy.
He also sentenced Mr Isyaku (second defendant) to death by hanging and two years for attempting to kidnap and two years for conspiracy.
The court also sentenced the third defendant, Fatima Jibrin two years imprisonment, for attempt to kidnap and conspiracy.
Hanifa Abubakar was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by Mr Tanko, who was her teacher, and the other suspects.
Her remains were discovered in the premises of a school owned by Mr Tanko after a ransom had been paid for her release.
The incident ignited outrage across Nigeria, drawing condemnations from President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Aisha.
