Wizkid Makes History With ‘Made In Lagos’ Album
Nigerian recording artiste, Ayodeji Balogun who is better known as Wizkid has scored another impressive record after he emerged as the first Afrobeat musician to be certified gold in the United States.
His album, Made In Lagos, released in 2020 has sold 500,000 copies in the United States, a record that was confirmed by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The recent achievement earns Wizkid the singular honor of being the only Nigerian and African artist to have his album sell above 500,000 copies in the United States.

The groundbreaking album, Made In Lagos was released in 2020 and it was pulsated by the hugely successful hit single, ‘Essence‘ featuring Wizkid’s Afrobeat colleague, Tems.
‘Essence’ itself has received positive reviews and continuous airplay across various international music streaming platforms. ‘Essence’ remix featuring American Pop star Justin Bieber peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is two-time platinum.

Following the release of the album, he has recorded 322 million streams on Apple music, 229 million streams on Spotify, 227 million streams on YouTube, over 140 million streams on Audiomack, over 40 million streams on Boomplay and over 20 million streams on Pandora, making a total of over 1 billion streams on Digital Service Providers (DSPs).
The album was certified Silver in the U.K, in the early months of 2022, after selling over 60,000 units and now certified Gold in the U.S for reaching 500,000 units of sales.
