Tiwa Savage Criticized For Underwhelming Amapiano-Inspired Single, ‘Koo Koo Fun’
Nigerians have taken to their various social media platforms to criticize singer, Tiwa Savage‘s newly released single, ‘Koo Koo Fun‘, an Amapiano-esque music.
The new single has received primarily negative reviews from social media users and fans of the Nigerian musician.
On Thursday, September 22, the Universal Music signee took to her Twitter platform to share snippet of her newly released song. The singer is looking to join the bandwagon of Nigerian recording artistes who are seeking to benefit from the ‘Amapiano‘ genre which originated from South Africa.
In recent months, several Nigerian musicians have recorded songs similar to the ‘Amapiano‘ genre which originated from South Africa.

It is a hybrid of deep house, jazz and lounge music characterized by synths, airy pads and wide percussive basslines.

The genre used to be called ‘number’. But MFR Souls came up with the name ‘amapiano’ and popularized it. They are the ones who started it.
Since the popularization of Amapiano across Africa, Nigerian musicians such as Davido, Burna Boy and Wizkid have tried to create sensational music out of the trending genre, albeit, it has not received any form of unanimous nod from music listeners across the country.
Earlier in the month of September, Wizkid released ‘Bad To Me‘ and received mixed reactions from music lovers. However, Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL) signee, Asake did exceptionally well with his debut studio album, Mr Money With The Vibe which contained several Amapiano framework.
Following Asake’s dexterity on his first music project, he collaborated with Tiwa Savage on ‘Loaded’. The single hasn’t really flabbergasted the mainstream music audience, hence, the attempt with ‘Koo Koo Fun‘.
